I grew up poor just north of Orlando, raised by a hippie teen mom just barely able to earn her GED and a blue-collar father who dropped out of middle school to care for his mother and father. I am the only boy and the third of four kids. And I know all too well the value of hard work, determination, and sacrifice in the name of survival in rural America. My oldest sister, eleven years older than I, raised me while my parents worked. She instilled in me a sense of compassion and love for those around us and a duty we all must have for standing up for those who cannot do so for themselves.

I am creative at heart and decided to pursue that avenue in higher learning. As someone who was considered a “band nerd” in middle and high school, I went on to pursue a general education associate's degree with a specialization in music performance and education from Daytona Beach Community College (now DSC) and then Jacksonville University. However, I found out in practice that it’s hard to put a price tag on something such as art and music. I decided that I needed to get out of the small town I was raised in and see more of the world outside of my little bubble. You can say I was a big fish in a little pond.

Towards the end of 2019, I decided to expand my horizons by applying to Spirit and was offered a job as a flight attendant. However, a few days before training, the whole world shut down, including my training, and my conditional job offer was placed on hold. But a year later, I was called back and received my wings on March 1st of 2021. I became a union representative a year later, in 2022, and wanted to make a difference in the lives of flight attendants. I worked alongside flight attendants in training, in shuttles, in airports, and on layovers, and found that they were struggling mentally and emotionally. That was when I decided to do something about it and put in my commitment to serve on LEC 37’s EAP Committee.

I believe that timing is everything, and alongside that needs to be proven experience and hard work to earn the honor of leading a council. I am a servant leader who has spent countless hours in meetings, taking phone calls, crying with, and picketing with my union siblings… So now is the time.

When I'm not suiting up to fly the line, I spend time enjoying time with my husband. I enjoy being a Disney passholder, trying new types of food, reading, and advocating for social justice in my community as a Greater Orlando PFLAG member.

With your vote, I will continue to follow our HRE mantra of “Show Up and Show out” by committing to continue showing up, supporting, having open and honest dialogue even in uncomfortable situations, and patience when it’s needed most.

In solidarity and Service, Union Strong.

Fighting for our rights, everywhere.
